Trader APP
Journey
the challenge
The trading app supports a complex journey from registration to account setup and placing a first trade. The goal was to understand where users experienced friction and which stages needed clearer guidance.
the
IDEA
Rather than testing screens in isolation, I evaluated the trading experience as one connected journey. I focused on user expectations, clarity, next steps, and points of confusion across the flow.
the
Process
I conducted moderated usability sessions and user interviews across key stages of the journey, including registration, account creation, instrument discovery, trading, and funding-related entry points. Findings were then synthesised across the full journey to identify recurring patterns and improvement opportunities.
RESEARCH APPROACH
Each stage was evaluated for clarity, navigation, expectations, interaction feedback, and ease of completing the next step.
Journey
To understand the experience as a whole, I mapped the key stages users move through from registration to trading. Each stage was evaluated for clarity, expectations, navigation, and the level of guidance users needed to confidently continue.

Evaluation focus
Clarity — Is the information understandable?
Expectations — Does the experience behave as users expect?
Navigation — Is the next step clear?
Interaction & Feedback — Does the interface respond clearly?
Confidence — Do users have enough information to continue?
Research outcome
Key findings

Complex choices needed stronger guidance — Users needed more context when making unfamiliar decisions.
-
Complex choices needed stronger guidance — Users needed more context when making unfamiliar decisions.
-
Clarity varied across the journey — Some stages were simple, while others introduced more information and choices.
-
Next steps were not always obvious — Certain transitions needed clearer guidance.
-
Small issues accumulated — Minor usability inconsistencies became more noticeable across the full journey.
Opportunities
-
Clarify — terminology & information hierarchy
-
Guide — complex decisions
-
Simplify — high-effort interactions
-
Connect — journey stages
-
Refine — recurring usability issues
Outcome
The research gave Product and Design teams an end-to-end view of the trading journey, highlighting both screen-level issues and recurring patterns across the experience. Findings were translated into actionable recommendations to improve clarity, reduce friction, and strengthen key stages of the journey.
